Dr Perricone Style Facelift

You may wonder what Dr Perricone has to do with eczema, but bear with me and I will tell you why.  He is the No.1 Dermatologist in the US and understands the link between cellular inflammation and its various ways of affecting your body.  He called one of his diets “The Facelift Diet” as it  reverses the signs of ageing and wear and tear.

Dr Perricone first came to my attention 5 years ago.  I wanted to detox from eating out over several months.  My skin flared up so I was willing to try anything and everything when it came to diet and skincare.  I searched online and discovered Dr Perricone’s 3 Day Facelift Diet and also 28 Day Programme.

He emphasised the importance of eating oily fish at least 4 times a day to reverse the effects of ageing and wrinkled skin.  He mentioned salmon a lot.  So I bought a whole salmon and ate it at least 3 times a day with salad to see what happened.

The diet worked.  Due to the lower carb and frequent protein intake over the course of 3 days.  I wanted to continue eating oily fish after the 3 Day Diet, but found salmon too expensive.  It still is, so  I chose mackerel instead as it is a more prolific and cheaper fish.  You can steam it, roast it or even broil it in a stew.

Dr Perricone has also developed a skincare line called Perricone MD.  It is mostly for mature people and also for those whose skin is almost normal, yet still needs tender loving care.

So What Does the 3 Day Facelift Do to Plump Your Skin?

Most of us know that oily fish is good for us.  What we do not realise is how eating starchy carbs like potatoes and rice makes us take on a bloated appearance.  I experienced this first hand after  a mini flare up earlier this year in April.

Every time I woke up I noticed my eyelids would flake and my face looked puffy. I noticed I had been eating plenty of rice on a weekly basis, so decided to switch to eating plantain for carbs.  I also started making blends containing cucumber and celery as well as drinking at least 2 litres of bottled water daily.

I also made soya milk and blended it with goji berries for extra beta carotene. My skin healed up in 1 1/2  months and I even started to glow!

So now  I love eating fish and eat it at least 3 times a week to maintain supple skin. It has practically taken me almost 10 years to cure my love of chicken and switch over to fish!  We Live to Learn!

A Simple Dish is Like This;

1 steamed mackerel with a 7 vegetable salad including

  • 1 whole cucumber
  • sliced carrots
  • mung bean sprouts
  • chopped baby spinach
  • sliced tomatoes
  • 1 medium avocado (optional)
  • chopped onions
  • and chard

I normally fill half my plate with fish and the other half with salad.  Avocados are used as a dressing. I do not put any olive oil on my salad as there is natural oil in the fish.

Dr Perricone’s Diet also includes eating plenty of berries for example, blueberries and raspberries.  Very nice with kefir for break fast!

I have not tried his skincare range yet, but am willing to try some for my hands and feet. WATCH THIS SPACE!

Dr Perricone looks very young himself even though he must be in his 50s.  He must definitely use some of the range daily to keep his looks fresh.

The good thing about skin is that it repairs while we sleep and there is a fresh turnover of skin every 28 days.  If we eat right consistently over a period of 3 months to 1 year, we can significantly reduce such signs of ageing as fine wrinkles, blotchy and dehydrated skin.  Even puffy eyes and hair thinning.

I did include at least 2 litres of vegetable juice every day and even lost 7lbs….I now understand the process to go through if the numbers on the scale start to creep too far up.

Do you find it easy to maintain your weight once you have lost several pounds?  Old habits die hard and it is so easy to revert to our old patterns of eating due to the comfortable feeling we get when we are with friends and loved ones.

I actually cut off a few friends who insisted on eating out several times a week, every week.  My skin felt better and I had more peace.  It took a while for new, wiser friends to fill the gap, but it was worth it and I have more valuable friendships now.

When you look good in your own skin, you feel good and others will notice the changes and will ask you what you did to accomplish this ‘new glowing you’.  So I would advise you not just to invest in skin creams and make up, but instead invest in skin care routines that include age-defying foods, juices and lifestyle.

Believe you me, after 1 year of healthy eating, you will come back to thank me for it!  And I will thank God… for making a difference in your life, for the better.  This is what life is all about.  Touching lives in a positive manner that ripples out to the friends they know.  We are the definition of the kind of friends we hang out with and if we hang out with unhealthy friends, we become the same way.

But once we start to change and jettison bad habits, we become better, more lovable people and our relationships will flourish as a result.  Do You Read Me?

I love eating fish but wish it wasn’t so expensive.  Being in a generally land locked area, my choice is not always the freshest so I tried frozen fish and sometimes canned.  It is amazing how much of an impact it had on my skin but also my belly issues.  I felt lighter and filled with so much more energy.

      Hi there,

I agree with you!  Fish is, however, something I had to get used to eating as I really liked chicken.

Fish is easily digested and makes for great natural skin care without putting anything on your face! Chicken however, is too dry and has to be eaten with avocado to get the same effect.

Sardines are good although they are not as fresh tinned….It’s a shame you live in. a land-locked area, since you like fish so much.

All the ones in my family who eat fish also have good skin…I have learnt my lesson!

Great article. and an interesting one. Ten years ago it was “weird” when I was using different skincare lotions and anti-aging products but nowadays I know many other men using these as well. Facelifts are also great. I will pick those ingredients on my shopping cart next time and test Perricone style facelift. Thanks for tips. I will take a further look at your websites other articles.

I’m glad you enjoyed reading it Jesse…

I am actually doing this Facelift as I speak.  The only difference is, I eat the fish with bean or lentil sprouts and also avocado, cucumber and tomato.  In the evening for dinner.

Then skin can repair at night and I wake up to a glowing face.  No need of skin lotions except maybe olive or coconut oil.

So even though fish is expensive, I am actually saving a packet on skincare products!  Interesting to note that even men use products for their skin.  The mind boggles.  I thought they were more natural…

Thanks for this educating and insightful post. Eating the right thing does not only affect the body system positively o’er negatively but also shows the healthy and nutritious nature of the food in our body system. Thus this post gas successfully given me nice food strategies to embark on when I notice excess intake in a particular class to balance the skin and avoid abnormalities. This facelift technique is not just well structured but obviously easy to prepare to give desired results. Thanks for this great post.

      No problem Will,

You will definitely notice a difference within a week.  If you actually go to Dr Perricone’s website, you will notice that he has an article called the 3-Day Facelift Diet.

What’s even more interesting are the comments that people have left about this.  Very, very interesting.

I hope you find the right kind of fish for you to enjoy, steamed.  Just like the people from the Far East do…

      And they have gorgeous skin…

Just a few minutes before reading this post, I just used a facial cream that I bought at a store today. I make use of this this a lot and didnt know that there are some types of foods I can eat that will help me enhance the quality of my skin. It’s really beautiful that you can help by adding what types of foods which is protein is most accommodating to the skin. I think I need to changing my eating diets now after reading this. Thank you for the help.

      Hi!

You can save so much money by eating fish instead of using products which you will spend a lot of money on.

Fish is expensive, but it is more easily digested and is good for brain health as well.  Within 1 week of doing this diet, see what happens to your skin!

I actually enjoy not eating out these days. I stopped eating out about 2 years ago and along with that, I stopped drinking soda and eventually moved along to only drinking water and some rum at night. Since I didn’t eat out anymore I started getting frozen dinners while I learn to cook and now I only cook at home. Usually I’m making high protein meats and mixed veggies. I haven’t had any experience with eczema or things like that luckily, but I’ve enjoyed being healthier and I feel better because of those choices. I also stopped smoking cigarettes about 5 years ago which is the best choice I’ve ever made! If anyone else reading this is a cigarette smoker, that is the first and best change you should make!

    • Stella says:

Good for you Paul, good for you.

You could actually write a book about this you do realise don’t you?

I have never smoked, but eczema has left it’s mark on me and I have fine wrinkles on my limbs.  So I will embark on more juices and avocado smoothies for them to disappear.

Watch this space…as I continue writing my journey!

First, let me just say that I am a huge fan of rice. As a matter of fact I eat rice 3 times a day, which means having 3 full meals a day, can you imagine that? This is because I easily get hungry if I skip even one full meal and would feel exhausted halfway through the day.

I always convince myself that this is okay, anyway, I’ll be able to burn all the calories by the end of the day. Oh well, that was when I was younger. A couple of months ago, I noticed some changes in the texture of my skin, especially my face. It wasn’t as smooth and flawless as it used to be. And so I thought I just needed to switch to a better facial cleanser and moisturizer. After trying our other brands, I did not see any visible improvement.

This is what prompted me to search for the causes and solutions. I haven’t come across the Dr. Perricone Style Facelift or the Facelift Diet but it has definitely piqued my curiosity.

Old habits really do die hard. On my end, it’s eating rice 3 times a day. But I am willing to give this diet a try. Hopefully I will get the result I want. Thank you also for reminding me how a healthy eating habit plays a huge part in keeping us looking young and fresh.

    • Stella says:

      Good for you Alice…

Yes, depending on our age and lifestyle, our skin can take on a different texture.  I am used to having flawless skin without needing makeup.

However, eating fish rather than chicken has really made a difference to my face.  I look at least 15 years younger on my face.

I am on a mission to get all of me looking that way!

All the best on your skin journey as well Alice,

Actually, it’s my first time hearing about Dr perricone. I haven’t heard of his products too but I have learnt that taking good foods can help enhance beauty and kill aging in the skin. You have elaborated on it and that’s very nice. Having read this, I know a lot about taking proteins and less carbs to help the skin. I should share this with my girlfriend. Thanks!

    • Stella says:

      Great John!

I hope you both enjoy fish dinners and learn to create them rather than eating out like most of us do nowadays.

People have changed from entertaining at home to eating lavish meals which are very expensive.  Personally, I’ve learnt my lesson – eating out had to be cut out…

  8. Suz says:

Sounds like a good one that I should try myself to clear eczema away from my face. I like the way you can tell us about this and also explain to me all I have to know about this facelift. You also explained how this three-day facelift can make my face look really good and I am eager to give it a try.

    • Stella says:

This method works.  The only thing is that it is rather expensive.  If you are on a budget and want to save money, this method will still work with fresh sardines.  Cook them til they are soft and the bones are brittle and can b  e eaten.  That should just be about 40 minutes.  You can grill them in tomatoes, ginger and onions, olive oil and lemon juice.

Remember to food process or blend the tomatoes first before adding the oil and lemon juice.

  9. DorcasW says:

Hello; DR Perricone suggestion about anti-ageing seems to have worked well for you. To have a positive result after eating oily fish for three days is a big encouragement to continue eating oily fish. Yes; it is more expensive than chicken and sometimes not easily source outside of the canned ones, but the end result we all hoped for is healthy radiant skin.

Do you suggest oily fish help remove thin fine lines around the eyes and mouth?

I drank cucumber juice at least once a day because it is so refreshing and keeps away high blood sugar but never think about its reaction on my skin. Thanks for sharing

    DorcasW

    • Stella says:

      Hello,

Oily fish repairs skin, so if you take oily fish for 30 days with cucumber, then you will find that the fish repairs your skin and you won’t have fine lines around the eyes and mouth.

You may have to exercise your face and also sleep on your back.  Simple singing exercises like a-e-i-o-u and facial massage will also help rid your skin of fine lines.

Hopefully, you are not yo-yo dieting as that causes fine wrinkles through the loss of muscle tissue.  Try to maintain the same weight and eat the same food portions each day.
