The Power of Salt Baths – Dead Sea and Epsom

In my quest to regain beautiful skin, I discovered that Dead Sea Salt and Epsom baths can improve the following conditions:

  • Psoriasis
  • Arthritis
  • Dry Skin
  • Eczema
  • Stress
  • Insomnia
  • Muscular Aches and Pain
  • Skin Allergies

The skin is strengthened and blood circulation improves.  Toxins are also removed from the skin. Any chemical imbalances of the skin and body are improved and the skin’s natural PH levels are restored.

Studies show that Dead Sea Salt baths have shown positive results in symptom relief and lengthening remission of eczema and psoriasis sufferers.

Personally, when my skin was at its worst, I took a salt bath every evening, then tapered the frequency to every other day, then tapered off the baths, gradually. This means as my skin improved, I took them every other day, then every 2 days, then twice a week.

I chose not to rinse off afterwards as I felt that the salt was still working even after my bath.  I would also add ground oatmeal and olive oil to the bath so that I was well moisturised. I found the baths to be very relaxing and I always had a good sleep afterwards. I would clean hairy parts daily with a kind soap like Turkish Olive oil soap or Black soap. And rinse off of course!

You will notice that having a 3-4 baths for 3-4 weeks will diminish the itch, scaling and joint complaints if you have any. Any sleeping difficulties are also resolved.  The spread of inflammation will decrease as well as the redness.  However, as I was on medication for something else, my face took 4 months to heal from chronic scaling and sunburn in 2014.

It was the bowel cleansing and liver flushes carried out every 3 months that finally did the trick.  My skin tone and texture returned to normal.  I also drank plenty of water or cucumber juice to cool down the eczema  body heat.

Only 1kg of salts per bath or more seems to be the most effective for treating skin conditions.

Flotation Tank Experience

In 2013, a friend of mine suggested  going to a nearby beauty salon that had a salt cave and a flotation tank.  Since I didn’t know what a flotation tank was, I did an online search.

Well basically, a flotation tank (or pod) has all the benefits of a regular salt bath except it is contains a very high concentration of Epsom salts.  The temperature of the water is kept to the same as your body while you float in the water.  Soft music is played and the lights are dimmed.

Each session lasts for an hour or more if you feel brave enough, but what I found really interesting about the floating experience is that as I lay perfectly still in the water, my mind went into a dream-like state. This I found was very relaxing.

The only thing I didn’t like was that my eczema patches really stung. I stayed the 1-hour course though as the time seemed to whizz by. This time, I did rinse myself off and oiled up with olive oil after towelling.  When I got home, I had a long nap.  I felt that relaxed.

Having a salt bath, whether or at home or in a tank is a much safer alternative than bleach baths and they also remove bad bacteria from the skin.

There are several flotation tanks in beauty spas throughout the UK and numerous abroad, Sweden having the highest proportion of flotation tanks to people living there.

And The Price?

This flotation experience which lasts for an hour can set you back anything from £45-70 a session.  You can have multiple sessions at a discounted rate if floating tickles your fancy.  The price is high because each tank (or pod) costs between £15,000-40,000, and must be fitted with specially prepared rooms.

However, the experience is worth it and I noted that my skin healed at a faster rate within the following couple of weeks.  That was impressive.

If you are interested in going to a floatation tank spa in London, there is one located at the London Flotation Centre, Isle of Dogs. The nearest station is South Quay DLR. The price? £45 an hour.

Argiletz Clay Review – It Works!

Argiletz clay is useful in so many ways for people with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.  It is a clay that contains minerals and feeds the skin with them while at the same time removing toxins.

Eczema on my leg healed fast without scars.  I am well pleased and I am sure you will be too as you read on…

Product Name: Argiletz Clay

Website: Amazon.com

Company and Location: Argiletz Clay, France

Price: Starts from £7  Highest Price: £12

It comes in various colours ranging from white to brown. Each colour signifies what it can be used for and the mineral content in the clay, eg, the red clay has plenty of iron, the green clay is for detoxifying the body and the white is for sensitive skin.  Argiletz clay also comes in sizes ranging from 300g to 1.5kg.

You can also buy Argiletz clay impregnated bandages and toothpaste for sore gums and sensitive teeth.

How to Use:

As a face/body mask: For small to large parts of your body, make 1/2 cup of clay paste.  Simply mix the 1 cup of clay with 3 tablespoons of olive oil and mix with enough water to make a smooth thick paste.  This is best done in the evening.

For the face, leave the paste on for 5 minutes just before it dries.  For other body parts especially with eczema, wrap with cling film followed by bandages and a cotton top you don’t mind getting messy. Tubifast bandages can be prescribed by your GP and are excellent for holding the cling film in place and keeping the clay paste moist.

Rinse off the clay with warm water the following morning. Then moisturise with either olive oil or raw shea butter. You only need to apply clay paste to your body until your body heals.

You may see a dramatic change for the better almost immediately.

As time goes on, apply a thinner paste.

As clay water: Mix one tablespoon into a glass of pure water and leave overnight.  Next morning, drink the clay water but not the clay.  It is highly mineralised clay water and helps to firm the gums and get rid of parasites in the body.

Personally, I used the green clay daily when I suffered from wet eczema on my leg. It was extremely itchy and sore, to the point I was limping.

I made a  big batch of clay paste and applied it thickly to my leg.  Then I wrapped it in cling film followed by bandages.  The bandages were held in place with leggings and then I wore trousers. Seems like a lot of hassle, right?  Extreme skin conditions call for extreme action.

Pros

  • Fast and effective
  • Can be used on all skin types including sensitive
  • Cheap price
  • Safe to use and is edible

Cons

  • Can be really messy and time consuming to apply, depending on how large the  eczema patch is
  • Can be hard to find as very few shops stock the entire range
  • Quite drying to the skin hence the need to mix with an oil and a little water  to make it easy to rinse off.

Conclusion:

Argiletz clay is very soothing for skin conditions and is very effective for healing scars. The price ranges from £7-12 and is extremely cost-effective.

You also do not need any special skills to apply the clay and it is useful for all skin types.

These days, the clay only seems to be found online at Amazon. It is rare to find the entire range of clay pack sizes and toothpaste in health food stores. However, the large clay pack sizes (1.5kg) last a long time so you won’t have to go and buy it every week.

Overall Rating: 9/10

Yes, you may say I’m biased, but hey, I don’t limp anymore! If you suffer from eczema or any other chronic skin condition, which can be very demoralising, I suggest you buy Argiletz clay for yourself.  It is worth it.

If you have any comments or questions, please feel free to leave them here…I will be pleased to answer them.

Wheatgrass Juice – Not the Powder!

Many people are on the juicing bandwagon these days and are making all sorts of juice cocktails.

Wheatgrass Juice

Wheatgrass juice is in a league of its own and is best consumed as juice and not the powder you see sold in most health food stores.

It is very similar to aloe vera benefit-wise except that you only need to start on 1-2oz a day to see results from drinking it.

What is Wheatgrass Juice?

It is the baby grass of wheat and is gluten-free.  You can normally buy it at health food markets and even some health food shops. The juice should only be taken on an empty stomach and can take some getting used to.

Personally, I like it flash-frozen straight from the field.  This bumps up the price to £54 a packet for 28oz of individual 1oz parcels. Quite expensive if you are on a tight budget.

Trays of the grass are easier on the pocket and are between £7-10 a tray.  Each one yields about 9oz of juice.

You will need to have a juicer that can juice wheatgrass as it is quite stringy – even more so than celery.

The good thing about wheatgrass juice is that you should see the effects on your body within a week as it is so powerful.

Personally, I found wheatgrass:

  • Toned my skin
  • Restored elasicity
  • Contributed to weight loss
  • Enhanced my vision
  • Made my hair thick and bushy
  • Made my nails strong

What is Wheatgrass Made Of?

It is one of the few grasses that has a complete protein profile.  All essential amino acids are included.  Chlorophyll – plant blood – is similar to our own haemoglobin and serves as a blood enricher.  This means that it can raise low blood counts of invalids back to a healthy level. All minerals and vitamins are included.  Wheatgrass is a complete food.

As the taste is quite acquired, you may have to lick a slice of lemon afterwards to take the wheatgrass juice taste off your tongue.  The good thing is that the benefits outweigh the taste.

The sicker you are the more juice you will need – up to 8oz daily. As wheatgrass juice is powerful, you should drink  2 oz in the morning on an empty stomach and 2 oz in the afternoon.  The same in the evening.

Depending on your weight.  I am 12 stone – 75kg and take up to 4oz a day when drinking this.  Mind you if you are relatively quite heavy for your height  and not a body builder – you may feel a little queasy as your liver is being cleansed.

In that case, prepare yourself at least a fortnight beforehand.  Have  a salad at least once a day….A 5-8 veg salad with avocado rather than  mayo.

You only need to take wheatgrass when you are in need of an extra boost of nutrients and trying to reverse symptoms of illness.

Wheatgrass Powder

Powdered wheatgrass is not as potent as the juice as it is missing the full chlorophyll juice factor.

It is possible to grow wheatgrass at home, however that would take another blog post or two to describe and you might get bored with all the details so I will spare you!

For those of you who do want to try growing wheatgrass at home – you can try the soil-free method as well as the soil method. You will need trays and wheatgrain (seeds). There is also the option to buy special equipment to grow wheatgrass at home.
