Aloe Vera For Eczema – Juice or Gelly?

Fresh Aloe Vera Leaf

Aloe vera is very beneficial for all  types of eczema.  It is also available in many forms – fresh from the leaf, made into juice or made into gelly and creams.  The gelly from fresh leaf is useful for sunburn and prevents your skin from peeling.  I used to have sunburn on my face during summer and bought the fresh leaves from an aloe vera farm.

I simply sliced off 1 inch of leaf and sliced off the green rind. Next, I put the sliver of gelly into a blender and turned it on for about 3 seconds. Then I put a generous amount on my face.  After 5 minutes, I gently rinsed my face with cool miineral water.  This is very soothing for those of you trwho have yet to use this method.

I repeated this method three times a day. The result?  My face healed in 3 days. However, you may not have the time to do all this so I recommend some store bought aloe vera gelly.  Not all brands are of good quality.  Forever Living Aloe Gelly is the only brand with patented stabilised aloe in it.  This means that the gelly acts as if it were fresh from the plant.

If you did want to buy the fresh plant, remember to get the Aloe Barbabensis Miller kind. This is because there are many different types of aloe vera plant.

How Does Aloe Vera Gel Work?

Please do not assume that aloe vera gel is a jack-of-all-trades…It simply works because it contains a rich supply of mucopolysaccharides (MPS) which are a class of long chain sugars.  These are vital to our bodies and  are found in every cell we have.  Our body makes MPS in the first decade of our lives.  After  that we have to rely on food sources to  supply our bodies with MPS.

The  gel penetrates  the three layers of epidermis when applied on the skin. This is why it is so effective when healing scars.

Aloe vera gel contains enzymes, vitamins, minerals,  essential amino acids , saponins, etc and is effective in assisting the body to heal itself.

How To Use Aloe Vera Juice and Gelly

Skin Almost Clear

Aloe vera juice is not sweet!  However, it is only    needed in small amounts to be effective.  Start with 1 tablespoon in the morning before food to aid  digestion.  Take another tablespoon in the evening before bed.

The gel can be mixed with a little honey to sweeten your tastebuds.   As time goes on, you may up the dosage to 1 tablespoon three times a day.

Aloe vera juice is known to be a laxative, so do not drink a whole 8oz cup to avoid causing diarrhoea.

The gelly is packaged in a tube and when using, simply apply to the area on your body with a light touch.       You can apply it as many times in a day as needed.  Aloe vera gelly is edible, so you can apply it to mouth ulcers and sore gums.

How Fast Does Aloe Vera Gelly Work?

This depends  on how frequently you apply the gelly or drink the juice.  Results can be seen almost immediately.

Hair and Skin Back to Normal

I once had a fever and drank 3oz of aloe juice then went to sleep for 3 hours.  I  had recovered by the time I woke up.  Also, I used to suffer from cold sores which covered one side of my face.  Instead of taking the usual three weeks, they took 3 days to come and go.

I had also scratched one third of my hair off one side of my head and I looked awful.  It took one and a half years for my hair to grow back and look  decent.   My eyebrows grew back too and so did my side burns.

Obviously, we are all different and heal at different rates, however in general,  you will find the rate that you heal will at least be twice as fast.

What  Will Happen If I Stop Using Aloe Vera?

If you are using aloe vera for a condition which is prolonged, you will find that the rate of healing will slow down  and eventually stop.  So it is best to continue with it by drinking the juice.  This will boost your immune system and also your overall health.

Personally, aloe vera juice and gelly were very useful in healing my eczema. I kept one tube in my bag and one in the bathroom, so I could use it when out and about and also after my bath.  Since my skin was very dry,  I would coat myself in a mixture of shea butter and coconut oil before putting on the Tubifast bandages.

The gelly was very cooling to my skin and calmed the itchiness right down.  My scratch wounds healed in 2 weeks and the scars took another 2 weeks to heal.  Bear in mind, I do not suffer from keloid scars in general, so maybe that is another reason why my skin healed quickly.

I was also drinking 2 oz of the juice twice a day so it was like a double whammy for my system.  My skin is now very smooth on my face and  no longer suffers from sunburn.

So there you have it, the main natural  remedy that I used in healing my eczema.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.

Evening Primrose Oil for Eczema

Evening Primrose oil is taken from the seeds of the plant which originated from North America.  This plant is from the Willow Herb family of weeds.  It bears yellow flowers when in bloom, that close up in the evening hence the name, ‘Evening Primrose’  The seeds contain 10-15% of oil that is made up of essential fatty acids called GLA and that is why evening primrose oil is often taken to relieve eczema.

The evening primrose plant is the only plant found, so far by mankind, that contains gammalinoelenic acid – GLA for short.  In the 1970’s scientists discovered that GLA is 10 times more effective than linoleic acid.

What Are Essential Fatty Acids?

They are vitamin-like lipids that your body cannot make, but must have.  Your body gets essential fatty acids from foods containing them; virgin sunflower seed oil, organic liver, kidneys and lean meat and legumes.  These foods belong to the linoleic fatty acid family.  Their role in your body is to ensure that your cell membranes are fluid and flexible.

Your cell membranes will become rigid when you have a deficiency of fatty acids.  Other symptoms of these essential fats show up in the following conditions;

  • Poor skin
  • Slow healing wounds
  • Arthritis
  • Dried up tear ducts
  • Faulty immune system

Blocking Agents to Absorption

Believe it or not, you may take plenty of evening primrose oil and still  not be absorbing it due to zinc deficiencies, ageing, or drinking moderate to large quantities of alcohol. The main culprit being food such as trans-fatty acids like cakes, biscuits, french fries and margarine.  (To cut a long story short, trans-fatty acids are foods that contain heavily processed oils that have become denatured.

Key Agents To Absorption

These are Vitamin C, B-Complex, Zinc and Magnesium

So How Does This Relate to Eczema?

People who have eczema have very low levels of GLA.  As Evening Primrose ol contains high levels of this fatty acid and it was the first natural remedy  for eczema  I took.  My GP prescribed them for me and I started on a dose of 2 capsules twice a day, then upping the dose to 5 capsules three times daily.

The reason for the large dose is that your skin is the your body’s largest organ.  It is also the last to receive nutrients.  Your internal organs including your brain receive the larger share of nutrients first.  This is why you might have to start small, up the dosage until you see the effects on your skin. Always take your height and weight into consideration too.

The dosage for infants is lower – 3 capsules pricked with a needle and the oil massaged gently into the tummy area.

Fpr youth and children as young as 10 – 3 capsules morning and evening with food.

Note of Caution

People with epilepsy should not take this oil.

Evening primrose oil comes in capsules and liquid form.  It is available from chemists, health food shops and online.  There are even ointments which contain this oil.  It would be good to do your own research to find out the amount of oil you need to take in order to clear your eczema.

For the record, one product I highly recommend is Udos oil. This is a mix of oils that contain essential fatty acids 3,6,9 including evening primrose oil, Ideally, it should be mixed into soya yoghurt for ease of absorption. I have also found this oil is often confused  with borage oil which is less effective for eczema.

Candida – The Skin Rash Villain

If you have rashes, brain fog or  you are bloated and tired – candida may be the culprit.

Candida Yeast Infection

So what is Candida? It is a fungus that normally lives in your gut and can multiply out of control when the balance of microbes in your intestines is upset.  For example, these days people love a plenty of sugar and sugary foods.  This can cause candida overgrowth

When this happens, your ability to digest foods is weakened.  So is your immune system.

All is not lost however, as MSM (Methyl Sulphonyl Methane – I know lovely tongue twister isn’t it?   can bring candida, the skin rash villain, back to its normal levels in the gut.

MSM is a sulphur supplement, sulphur being one of the major minerals that our body needs.  It is stored in every cell in a body and if you are deficient in it you may find that you suffer from the following:

  • slow wound healing
  • scar tissue
  • brittle nails
  • brittle hair
  • digestive problems
  • arthritis
  • acne
  • rashes
  • depression
  • memory loss

Sulphur is the eighth most abundant substance in the body by weight and it is very important for us to absorb it from our food.

Eggs Contain Sulphur

Unfortunately, most of our food is  lacking in this substance due to depleted soil, therefore we have to supplement it with MSM which is totally natural.

Of the many roles that sulphur plays in our body, structure and cell-function is one of them.  Sulphur is a required element found in most body tissues: hair, nails, skin, blood vessels and organs.  This element is also involved  in the  healing of these tissues damaged by injury.

The rate of cellular renewal from the fastest to the slowest is this:

  • Epithelial cells – make up the tissues that cover the outside of the body (skin) and line the digestive, urinary and respiratory tracts.
  • Connective tissue – including fat cells and fibrous cartilage which maintains elasticity and flexibility
  • Muscle, nerve and bone cells – nerve and bone cells can take up to 7 years to replace themselves.

So What Has MSM Got to Do With Candida?

Plenty…MSM can help heal a host of issues, but for now, let’s focus on its function regarding candida overgrowth.

MSM  discourages the overgrowth of candida by competing  binding receptor sites at the mucous membrane surface in the intestinal tract.

Starting doses of MSM (which is normally in powder form) of 20-30g should be taken for the first week.  Fortunately it is non-toxic and can be taken in higher doses. The second week, one should up the doseage to 50g taken 3 tmes a day.  Mind you, don’t take MSM at night time as it increases your energy.

MSM  should also be given bearing in mind the, and weight and age of the individual taking it.

It should also be taken alongside time-release Vitamin C and also a great multi-mineral supplement, like Dr Schulzes Superfood.   This should ensure maximum absorbency of the MSM by your body.

Possible side effects:  One may experience headaches and fatigue for the first few days due to the detox process.  If this happens, just drink more water.  Don’t worry – this is just a part  the healing process.

To make MSM Water:  Add 1/2 teaspoon of MSM to every 12 oz of water. Mix this in a jug at room temperature so the MSM powder dissolves.

Vitamix – Total Nutrition Centre Review – Get Creative!

There are blenders and then there are BLenDERs

The Vitamix Total Nutrition Centre helps you be creative in the kitchen, bringing your overall nutrition to a higher level…in a matter of minutes.

Vitamix Total Nutrition Centre

I have owned one for 9 years and it has never failed to help me be creative in making everything from nutmilks to soups, sauces and spreads.  In fact I’m still learning something new about this workhorse every day.

Vitamix Blender Features;

  • 64 oz container for  large quantities
  • Variable speed control from 1-10
  • 7-year full warranty on parts, returns and shipping
  • Aircraft-grade blades tough enough to grind even flaxseeds
  • Cool running motor – consistent temperature maintains the enzymes in ingredients
  • Angled sides of container – designed to create a vortex for the ingredients to be smoothly blended by the blades.

How To Use It

Simply place the 64oz container onto the motor (which should be placed on a flat dry surface).  Then put your ingredients into the container.  Put the black lid on the top, pressing down firmly to secure it. Then place the small transparent inner lid into the centre of the black lid and twist clockwise once.

There is a tamper supplied with the blender and this is used to stir ingredients  until smooth.  The tamper should not be placed near the blades while the machine is on to avoid damaging it like I did once!!  Fortunately, this happened during the warranty time, so it was fixed and has been working as good as new since then.

What I Do Not Like About This Blender

The Vitamix is an impressive workhorse, the only downside seeming to be the price, which at £475, was very costly for me.  I paid for it in 2 instalments and received it once the balance was completed.

Also, the container seems to be designed for people who are 1.64 metres and taller, as it requires a long reach of arm to attach or lift off the  lid or use the tamper to stir ingredients.

What I Like About This Blender

The good thing is that this particular brand of blender has outlasted all 4 blenders of another make I had, so in the long run it looks as if you could actually save money.

It was only when I had delayed buying my spare juicer parts  that I realised how versatile my blender could be.  There is a 7 year warranty with this blender and all of the Vitamix series of blender, except the refurbished ones.

So, if you want to save time on preparing food for your family, the Vitamix Total Nutrition Centre could well turn out to be one of the best items you buy for your kitchen.
